Augusta's Jeff Knox shoots '75' as marker
Augusta National Golf Club member Jeff Knox, playing as an non-competing marker with amateur Kelly Kraft on Saturday, "beat" Kraft, the U.S. Amateur champion, in the third round of the Masters Tournament.
Knox, an Augusta resident, said he shot 75, if you count the tap-in bogey putt he picked up on the seeventh hole. Kraft made double bogey on the 18th hole for 77.
A marker is used when there is an uneven number of players in the field and he goes off in the first group off the tee. That way, the Masters participant has someone to keep his official scorecard and he doesn't have to play by himself. It also helps in pace of play.
Knox is the regular marker when the club needs one. This was the first time, though, he'd been paired with an amateur.
"Someone mentioned that we were the only group with a bagstand," Knox said. "Both of us had bagstands."
