Mickelson loses share of lead with triple bogey
Three-time Masters champ falls four strokes back
Three-time Masters Tournament champion Phil Mickelson played himself out of the lead this afternoon with a triple-bogey 6 on the par-3 fourth.
Mickelson sliced his tee shot so far left that it hit the grandstand railing and bounced into the trees on the opposite side of a cart path that runs along the fourth hole.
Mickelson's first attempt to punch out of the trees barely moved. He shanked his second attempt and the ball trickled onto the trampled group beside the grandstand.
His next shot flew into the greenside bunker, and Mickelson got up-and-down in two for the triple bogey.
Mickelson now sits four strokes back and tied for sixth through six holes.
