Nicklaus recently played round at Augusta National
Jack Nicklaus, at 73 years old, is past his Masters Tournament competing days.
But the six-time Masters champion still returns to Augusta National Golf Club to play.
Nicklaus, who along with Gary Player and Arnold Palmer was an honorary starter Thursday morning, said he played a round at Augusta National about a month ago.
“I brought a group with me. It was a rainy day, so I couldn’t use a cart. I had a brand-new pair of shoes, so I walked 18 in a brand-new pair of shoes; first time I walked 18 holes in about two years. My feet hurt when I was done. But no blisters, and that was good.”
As for picking a favorite for this year’s tournament, Nicklaus ran down a list of players: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Dustin Johnson – Nicholson quipped he hits the ball nine miles – and Nicolas Colsaerts.
