No TV needed this year for Bryden Macpherson
From the 4 a.m. viewing hours to the drives down Magnolia Lane, Bryden Macpherson will get a different view of the Masters in 2012.
The Australian, who qualified for the Masters by winning the British Amateur, is making his Masters debut.
"It's just nerves, just pure excitement," Macpherson said. "You see it on TV and you watch it at home, in Australia, at 4 a.m., 5 a.m. in the morning, and it’s just pure excitement."
But instead of turning on the TV to get a glimpse of the Masters, Macpherson was out in the practice area Tuesday morning, spending most of his time there on the putting green and in the bunkers. He planned on playing nine holes, practicing a bit, and then going out again to play nine holes later Tuesday. On Wednesday, Macpherson is expecting to play nine holes in the morning before participating in the Par 3 Contest.
Macpherson, 21, was just the second Australian to win the British Amateur in the event's 116-year history, and the first since 1954..
Though this is his first Masters, as a former member of the University of Georgia's golf team, Macpherson has played at Augusta National before.
He hopes that gives him a boost as he's looking to be the first Australian to win the Green Jacket.
"There’s a lot of talented players from Australia," Macpherson said. "Hopefully this will be the year one of us breaks through. The important thing is one of us does – it doesn’t matter who it is.”
