Potter wins Par-3 Contest
Ted Potter Jr., rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to defeat Matt Kuchar for the Par-3 Contest title.
Potter, Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Nick Watney all tied for first place at 4-under-par 23. Els and Watney elected not to return for the playoff.
The playoff began at No. 8, and Kuchar almost holed his tee shot, his ball finishing three feet away from the hole. Potter rolled in a 40-foot birdie putt from the edge of the green, while Kuchar tapped in to extend the playoff. Mickelson was eliminated after making par.
At No. 9, Kuchar putted first, missing a 15-foot birdie chance. Potter then stepped up and dropped his birdie attempt for his first Par-3 Contest title. Potter will now try to become the first player to win the Masters Tournament and Par-3 Contest in the same year.
