Villanova basketball's Jay Wright catches Wednesday action
The other time he was here, Villanova men's basketball coach Jay Wright was so overwhelmed by the place -- the beauty, the clubhouse -- that he missed out on something important: the golf.
So as he watched Wednesday's Par-3 Contest and gets ready to come back for Thursday's round, Wright is making sure he's remembering the sporting moments better than he did two years ago.
"I was in such awe of everything, I don’t think I got to appreciate the golf," he said. "Just seeing everything, going into the clubhouse, I came back remembering everything except the golf. This time, I want to follow a [group] and just enjoy the golf."
Like so many others, Wright, who said he's staying in town until Thursday night, respects the game because it respects its past so well.
"Anybody that plays a sport should always be respectful of the game and the people that came before them," Wright said. "I think this tournament honors the sport of golf better than any other event honors their sport. It’s just a thrill. I love just being a fan."
