Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal joined countryman Seve Ballesteros as a Masters champion with his win in 1994, extending Europe's dominance at Augusta National Golf Club.

Olazabal and Ballesteros made their mark in international golf, forming the cornerstone of Europe's Ryder Cup teams for more than a decade. Both Spaniards also enjoyed success at the Masters, where they used their imaginative short games to full advantage.

In 1994, Olazabal used a note from Ballesteros as the impetus to overtake Tom Lehman to win his first major championship.

``It was very nice,'' Olazabal said of the letter left in his locker Sunday morning. ``Seve has had a great influence on me. He's given me courage and confidence to keep on playing.''

Trailing Lehman by one shot, Olazabal caught the American with a birdie on the par-5 8th. Olazabal went ahead for good after Lehman made bogey on No. 12 and Larry Mize did the same on No. 14.

The decisive blow came on the par-5 15th when the Spaniard sank a 30-foot eagle putt from the front of the green. Lehman's bid for eagle just missed from 15 feet, securing Olazabal's victory.
