Curtis Luck putts on the seventh green during the Tuesday practice round of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.

Curtis Luck is taking a casual approach to his first Masters Tournament appearance this week.

The Aussie, who took a unique route to earning a Masters invite by winning two separate amateur events to qualify, is looking forward to turning pro the week after the Masters. Before then, he simply wants to have fun.

“At this stage, so much planning has been going into getting ready to turn pro, I’m just here to have fun,” Luck said. “I think if I enjoy my time out on the golf course, the golf will come with it, hopefully. That’s usually how it works.”

Luck won the 2016 U.S. Amateur and Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, both qualifiers for the Masters, and enters this week as the No. 1 amateur in the world.

Hot stretches became his game during those victories. He reeled off wins on eight consecutive holes to clinch the U.S. Amateur, and he overcame a seven-shot deficit to win the Asia-Pacific.

Luck has played with fellow Aussies Jason Day and Adam Scott so far this week, as well as Rory McIlroy on Tuesday. Each brought their own style to Luck’s preparation, from Scott’s comforting casualness to McIlroy’s intensity.

“Rory today was impressive,” he said. “I was a little bit worried at the start when he said we were going to play just one ball and he birdied the first two, but he slowed down after that.”
