Dufner OK with “my decent score”
Jason Dufner saw the extremely windy conditions on Thursday’s opening round of the Masters and knew what his approach must be in his seventh trip to Augusta.
“I think it’s important to kind of be who you are,” Dufner said. “And today I accepted whatever the golf course gave us.”
What Augusta National gave Dufner was 1-under 71, good for a fourth-place tie with seven other players.
“Luckily, I was really good with my scrambling and my putting and put a decent score together today.”
Dufner, 40, produced five birdies and had his day at 3-under after 14. He finished with bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18.
“Anything under 74 — and maybe even 75 — was going to be a pretty good round today,” said Dufner, whose best finish at a Masters is a tie for 20th in 2013. “I just have to do it again tomorrow, probably with these same conditions and then hopefully get some weather we can score a little bit on the weekend.”
