Poor luck the theme for Aiken's Kevin Kisner at Masters
Kevin Kisner’s drive on No. 18 was a little to the right of the fairway, but his following shot landed within 10 feet of the cup, and he managed to nail a birdie putt to close his round.
It was a good finish for what was a tough day for the Aiken native.
“I wasn’t trying to hit that big of a miracle shot, but it kind of worked out,” Kisner said of his second shot at No. 18. "I had three or four shots today that were on top of a ridge. If it just catches the ridge, it goes right down to the hole ... That’s just what Augusta National does to you. It was nice to steal one (at 18) because I felt like I was owed one.”
After an even-par round Thursday, Kisner shot 3-over-par 75 on Friday to sit in a tie for 35th.

Starting early in his day, Kisner’s round was full of unfortunate breaks. A roll this way or a break that way and it might have been a lower score for the University of Georgia alum.
“At 2, I hit a beautiful wedge right where I wanted it,” Kisner said. “It stayed on the ridge about 15 feet to the left of the hole. I hit my putt literally one inch and it went past the hole. I felt like one where I probably could have made a birdie. A couple more out there, it just stayed right on the ridge, and those are the ones that just kill you.”
A birdie at No. 4 put him below par, but that was short-lived after bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7. After the bogey at No. 7, Kisner really went in a rut.
After back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 9 and 10 and a double bogey at No. 11, Kisner sat at 5-over and in danger of missing the cut.
“I hit a beautiful 4-iron into 11; I just misjudged the wind,” Kisner said. “I thought it was off to the left and it blew it just left of the hole. To walk away with a 6 after two good shots and a 5 yesterday, I was pretty much ready to just throw up.”
Kisner birdied No. 13 and settled into a rhythm for the rest of his round.
“I just had to dig within,” Kisner said. “I’m proud with the way I fought to come back and play the weekend and have a chance to have a decent finish if I can post some good rounds.”
