For the second consecutive year since winning the Masters Tournament, Danny Willett failed to make the cut at Augusta National.

Willett needed pars on Nos. 17 and 18 to qualify for the weekend, but the 30-year-old Englishman bogeyed both.

“It's a bummer,” Willett said. “We were doing a lot of good work. I have a lot of good positives to take from the week and how we played but, yeah, things just didn't quite fall into place today.”

After a poor tee shot on No. 17 led to a bogey, Willett needed to birdie the final hole to play the weekend. However, his approach shot plugged in the front bunker.

“You talk about luck,” Willett said. “I hit a pretty good one on 18, it gets a bad bounce and goes in the (greenside) bunker. I get a terrible lie. It's one of them things that I think if things aren't going your way, they're not quite going your way.”

Willett was one of 34 players to miss the cut at the 82nd Masters, including defending champion Sergio Garcia, Gary Woodland, Jason Dufner and Alex Noren.

The cut was 5-over-par 149. Fifty-three players advanced to the weekend, and 11 former Masters champions missed the cut.

“It hurts,” Woodland said of missing the cut here for the third straight time. “I felt like my game was pretty good coming in — felt like we had a pretty good game plan. I just didn’t execute, and that's what it comes down to. Just didn't have it.”

Noren, competing in his second Masters, has missed the cut each time.

“I'm disappointed, of course,” said Noren, who finished at 9-over 153. “I thought I had it going today. I played a lot better, had a lot of chances, but there’s so much slope on the greens. I didn't make the birdies and that makes you start forcing things.”

Noren had an even-par first nine on Friday, but a poor tee shot on No. 10 led to a triple bogey. Noren recorded 43 on the second nine to card 79.

“When I got out of position on No. 10, I hit a bad shot,” Noren said. “I should have dinked it down the fairway, but I went for it and made a triple. And that took so much energy out of me. It felt like I’ve had a good run this season, but finishing today it's not very nice.”
