Patron notes
Augusta National is no stranger to the Canter family.
Peter Canter, 83, attended his first Masters Tournament in 1954, and the tournament has evolved into a family gathering place each April. On Saturday, four generations of Canters arrived at the Masters undaunted by the looming weather.
“Rain, shine, it doesn’t matter,” Canter said. “We’re all in Augusta.”
His son, grandson and 6-year-old great-granddaughter were all in attendance.
For Peter's son Greg, 59, there’s no place he’d rather be than Augusta National.
“This tournament is very dear to our hearts,” Greg Canter said. “It means a great deal to us and hopefully we’ll keep coming for many more years.”

This marked the first Masters for Anna Canter, 6.
“It’s a big deal,” Greg said of having his granddaughter in attendance. “That is the first time we’ve had four generations at the Masters.”
Rain gear
As clouds hovered Saturday morning over Augusta National, patrons flooded the merchandise shops with eyes set on preparation.
“It’s supposed to get bad this afternoon,” said K.J. Thomas, of Scottsdale, Ariz. “The last thing I want is to be on Amen Corner without an umbrella.”
Thomas, who’s attending his third Masters Tournament, purchased a green poncho and umbrella.
“Some people want T-shirts,” said Beth Simpson. “I want an umbrella. That’s way more important right now.”
Although numerous items in the merchandise shop — including house flags, wallets and garden gnomes — have sold out, both umbrellas and ponchos were still in stock by mid-morning.
“I know they’ll start going fast,” Simpson said. “No one wants to be soaking wet on the golf course.”
Photo opportunity
With no cameras allowed on grounds during tournament days, only one place at Augusta National offers a chance for patrons to take a lasting image.
On Saturday, thousands made their way to the line near the members chipping range, hoping to get a picture taken at Founders Circle.
“Everyone wants to remember being here, to have proof you were here,” said April Wilcox, of Nashville, Tenn. “I think it’s a great gesture by the Masters to provide this opportunity.”
Although the line stretched toward the Par-3 Course, Wilcox said it was worth the wait.
“This will be our Christmas card,” said Wilcox, who attended the tournament with husband, Larry. “I think we’ll make a lot of family members jealous this year.”
