At the halfway mark of the Masters Tournament, Henrik Stenson has shown no fear of the number 13.

After shooting 2-under-par 70 on Friday in tough conditions, the big Swede is all alone at 5-under par and third place of his 13th Masters.

His previous best standing after two rounds was a tie for 11th in 2009 and 2012.

Throughout Friday’s round, he never dropped below  3-under mark.

“This round was very similar to yesterday,” Stenson said. “I managed my way around this course in a good way and didn’t make too many mistakes. I was a little frustrated the way I hit the ball at times and didn’t feel like I brought the long game that I would like to have out there. ... All in, all it’s a good score.”

Stenson said that with the windy conditions and speedy, firm greens, even a good shot might not be rewarded.

“The line is extremely fine here between every shot and every hole, more or less,” Stenson said. “You have to try and stay patient and let that part go. This course is going to kick you where it counts, and you better be able to except that.”

Stenson helped his cause when he chipped in for birdie on No. 11, one of only 10 there for the day.

“My top shot of the day,” said Stenson, who gave a little fist pump after the shot. “I was about five yards short of the green and holed out from about 15 yards out. That was nice to see.”

Stenson’s best finish in the Masters is a tie for 14th in 2014. He's scheduled to tee off at 2:20 p.m. Saturday in the next-to-last group with Rory McIlroy.

With expected rain for Round 3, Stenson said the experience gleaned from his previous years in Augusta should come in handy.

“Yeah, it could be a grind tomorrow with the tough weather conditions forecasted,” Stenson said. “This golf course is not going to give you any more margins just because the weather is bad. So hopefully, the game plan we have and the knowledge we have can help us stay in the ball game.”
