'Team Reed' celebrates Masters victory
Justine Reed raised both arms, then wiped away tears from behind the 18th green Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.
“This is unbelievable,” Justine told Matt Kuchar, who sat next to her on the final hole. “Just wow.”
Along with Justine, who married Patrick Reed in 2012, a dozen members of “Team Reed” gathered behind No. 18 to take in his victory at the 82nd Masters Tournament. Among them was Lowell Taub, Reed’s agent, who earned the second embrace from the newly crowned champion — just after Justine.

“What an incredible moment,” Taub said of hugging Reed. “It’s still a blur, and all I remember saying is, ‘You did it. You’re a Masters champion.’”
One noticeably absent member of Reed’s camp was Josh Gregory, who coached Reed at Augusta State University where the two captured back-to-back national titles in 2010 and 2011. Gregory has continued working alongside Reed since college.
“I knew he had the nerves,” Gregory said in a phone interview. “There was no doubt about that. I mean, you dream of coaching players to national championships and major victories, but to have both happen is beyond my wildest dreams. It’s so cool to be a small part of it.”
Gregory was at Augusta National until Friday afternoon, when he flew home to Texas to help his family move homes. He elected not to return to Augusta, citing fear of jinxing Reed’s chances.
“I’m so proud,” Gregory said. “Incredibly, incredibly proud right now. This one means so much.”
Justine and Patrick met at Augusta State University after Reed transferred from Georgia following his freshman year. Justine’s brother, Kessler Karain, is Reed’s caddie, while their other brother Dan Karain walked each hole Sunday watching his brother-in-law.
“This has been his dream his whole life,” Dan Karain said of Reed becoming Masters champion. “He’s wanted to win the Masters since he was a kid. This is truly a dream come true — it means everything.”
After embracing Justine on No. 18, Patrick was greeted by two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and Watson’s son, Caleb. The two spoke briefly, while Bubba made a point to congratulate Justine.
“I’m so happy for you,” Watson said, as the two embraced. “Congratulations.”
