With four birdies and an eagle in the final round of this year's Masters Tournament, one would think Aiken native Kevin Kisner would be pleased with Sunday's effort.

After also posting six bogeys, he really was quite disappointed after a 72 and an even-par showing overall at his third Masters.

“I had an opportunity to shoot really low and I just threw it away around the green,” Kisner said. “Just terrible pitching. Just way too many bogeys. I think I made six or seven birdies and shot even par. That’s just not good enough.”

Kisner began his round at even par and bogeyed his first two holes but got one of them back with a birdie at the par-3 No. 4.

After another bogey at No. 6, the University of Georgia alum had back-to-back birdies at Nos. 7 and 8 before a bogey at No. 9 put him at 1 over for the tournament.

His back nine was more of the same streaky play.

A birdie at No. 10 was erased by a bogey at No. 11, but an eagle at No. 13 had him at 1 under on the day and in the tournament. He returned to even par with a bogey at No. 18.

Still, his tie for 28th was his best showing at Augusta National, and the four-round total of 288 was his lowest total by nine strokes.

“It was better,” Kisner said of his tournament, “but it was a disappointing day.”

Kisner will play the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, S.C., this week, a place he is thrilled to play after the challenges of Augusta National.

“I’m excited to watch your ball go where you hit it and greens without so much slope in them,” Kisner said. “It will be like a vacation.”
