Mother Nature couldn't stop latest engagement proposal at Augusta National

Nothing could stop Matthew Kleineck — not even Mother Nature.

As steady rain pelted down on Amen Corner, Kleineck walked between the No. 12 tee box and No. 13 fairway and took a knee.

“The night I met Kendall, I told her I was going to the Masters to celebrate my 30th birthday,” said Kleineck, moments after proposing to girlfriend, Kendall Anderson. “Right then, the first night we met, I knew Kendall would be coming with me. I always knew it was her.”

Tuesday was the couple's first visit to Augusta National, and the bride-to-be was “definitely surprised” by the moment. They live in Austin, Texas.

“Coming to the Masters has always been No. 1 on our bucket list, so I can’t think of a better place for this to happen,” Anderson said. “I’m so happy right now. I mean, look at this ring. It’s perfect.”

Anderson played collegiate golf at Newman University in Wichita, Kan., and Kleineck is also an avid golfer. For the groom, as nervous as he was Tuesday morning, he admitted asking permission was equally as nerve-racking.

“Oh, I was super nervous when I asked Kendall’s dad,” Kleineck said. “But he was totally on board. He loved the idea of getting engaged at (Augusta National).”

The couple has not set a wedding date, but Anderson has an idea of where she wants their wedding.

“Does this mean we’re getting married at the Ryder Cup?” she asked, still wiping away tears. “That would be awesome.”

Kleineck proposed about a half-hour before the course was shut down due to bad weather. When asked what they planned to do the rest of the day, Kleineck said, “It’s time for some beers.”

“I need one too,” Anderson said.
