Mike Weir misses Masters lockermate
Dressing in the champions locker room is a honor past Masters winners are given for their victory.
Each has his name engraved on a locker. All of the past winners share a locker with other champions.
The 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir shared his locker with 1957 champion Doug Ford. Ford passed away last year.
“It was different,” Weir said. “It was different not having Doug there. There are a lot of great Doug stories, especially when he won his Masters. He plugged in the left bunker at 18 and holed it. Bob Goalby (1968 Masters champion) was the telling the story and Doug just kind of winked after he made it.
“There are a lot of great memories with him and meeting his family. When I saw the locker this week it was emotional for me. He was a quiet, inspirational champion. He didn’t talk about himself, but from the stories I hear everybody talks about what a fierce competitor and what a great player he was.”
