--------

7:05 p.m.: The final three groups of the day did their part to astound the patrons with a birdie binge for the ages.

Bryson DeChambeau closed with four consecutive birdies, capped by his approach on the 18th bouncing off the flagstick to a couple inches. He shot 6-under-par 66.

Brooks Koepka had a four-birdie barrage of his own to also get to 6 under through 17 holes, while Phil Mickelson has four birdies since the 11th hole to get to 4 under with Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter.

--------

6:21 p.m.: Brooks Koepka has attacked with full force on a soft second nine at Augusta National.

Going for his fourth major in less than two years, he's riding three consecutive birdies into the par-5 15th hole. He's got a one-shot lead on Ian Poulter and Bryson DeChambeau, who will go to 4 under momentarily after nearly making an ace on the 16th.

Six other players are at 3 under.

--------

5:30 p.m.: In the last five minutes, we've gone from three leaders to seven.

Brooks Koepka (12), Bryson DeChambeau (13), Dustin Johnson (13) and Kevin Kisner (15) all made birdies to get to 3 under.

--------

5 p.m.: Things remain a tight affair at the top of the leaderboard, with your everyday 14-way tie for fourth place.

Sure.

The good news is that, outside of shocking pear-shaped scores from Jordan Spieth (+4), Justin Rose (+4) and Paul Casey (+5), all the big names are within four shots of the lead. McIlroy and Reed are at 1 over.

--------

3:40 p.m.: Tiger Woods couldn't make birdie from the fairway on the par-5 15th hole.

Adam Scott has been the only player to make one on the 18th.

Those surprise turns have resulted in a six-way tie at the top, and a whopping 29 players within two shots of the lead so far in Round 1. A swirling wind that seems to be behind the players on both 15 and 18 is making life just a little difficult right now.

As they say: You can't win a major on Thursday, but you sure can lose it. Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth hope to avoid that latter category. They need a rebound from their 1-over totals so far.

--------

3:16 p.m.: Tiger Woods two-putted from 50 feet on No. 13, then hit a 25-footer for birdie on No. 14 to vault into a tie for the lead at 3 under with clubhouse leader Justin Harding, Spaniard Jon Rahm and Patton Kizzire, who erased a bogey on 12 with a birdie on 13.

Former champion Adam Scott is also at 2 under, part of a group of seven players.

--------

2:50 p.m.: A day full of moving and shaking continues, as Masters rookie Justin Harding is now alone atop the leaderboard at 3 under. Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard was the third player of the day to have a share of the lead going into the 18th hole, only to make a bogey.

In the star morning groupings, Jon Rahm is having the most success, at 2 under through 12. Several players are at 1 under, including Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Kuchar.

All players are on the course, with the afternoon highlight groupings on Nos. 3-6.

--------

2:04 p.m.: Masters rookie Justin Harding of South Africa was the second outright leader of the day so far to bogey the final hole. He still finished with a 69 on the day and is tied at the top with Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard and Patton Kizzire.

Four others are at 2 under, including Augusta native Charles Howell, who is playing in the Masters for the first time since 2012.

--------

1:17 p.m.: Corey Conners has the clubhouse lead with a 2-under-par 70, but South Africa's Justin Harding is alone at 3 under after a birdie on No. 15.

Of the first 69 players who had completed a hole, 60 of them were at 2 over or better. Like Conners, several other players have found success on Nos. 13-15, including big moves by Andrew Landry and Keith Mitchell to go from 3 over to even par.

--------

12:26 p.m.: Corey Conners simply can't lose.

The first-time PGA Tour winner, who grabbed the final invitation to this year's Masters Tournament, is taking full advantage. After playing the first nine in 1-over 37, he's found the groove on the second nine. Birdies on Nos. 13 and 14, and an eagle on No. 15, make him the first player to reach 3 under. He's got a one shot lead on a crowded leaderboard.

--------

11:58 a.m.: Patton Kizzire has the first eagle of the tournament, making a 3 on No. 2 to get into a tie for the early lead.

Four players are currently at 2 under, including Justin Harding, Aaron Wise and Haotong Li.

All the marquee groups of the morning wave are on the course. Tiger Woods made a birdie on No. 2 from the greenside bunker, while Rory McIlroy bogeyed the opening hole.

--------

10:16 a.m.: It's a three-way tie at the top as Kevin Tway, Justin Harding and amateur Takumi Kanaya are all 2 under early in their rounds.

In all, nine players from the first 10 groups are in red figures.

After an open tee time, the biggest names of the morning wave will tee off from 10:31 to 11:15 a.m., including defending champion Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

--------

9:25 a.m.: The first few groups are on the course, and Kevin Tway, Justin Harding and amateur Takumi Kanaya are the early leaders at 1-under-par.

--------

8:30 a.m.: Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player hit tee shots this morning to begin the 83rd Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.

Player, hitting first, put his tee shot on No. 1 about halfway up the hill and in the fairway.

Nicklaus hit his a little shorter and on the left side.

The first grouping goes off at 8:30 with Andrew Landry, Adam Long and Corey Conners.

The favorites go off later, including Tiger Woods (11:04), Rory McIlroy (11:15) and Dustin Johnson (1:38).
