After a round like Charles Howell had Saturday, he could have sulked and let his 4-over-par 76 in the third round get in his head. Instead, he's going the other direction.

“It’s still the Masters, I’m still playing on Sunday. It’s not the end of the world,” Howell said.

But his play on the back nine will certainly leave him with a bitter taste when he takes the course for the final round.

Things were looking up for Howell heading into second nine of a day ripe for scoring. After picking up two bogeys, he birdied the last three holes of the front nine to get to 5-under for the tournament. That was followed by a slew of bogeys – on Nos. 10, 11, 14, 17 and 18.

Getting to the green wasn’t the issue Saturday; he hit 13 of 18 in regulation. However, he putted 36 times, with three-putts on Nos. 5, 14 and 17.

“The golf course is right on an edge and if you do play well, the scores are out there and I didn’t putt well enough to do it or get anything going,” Howell said. “... I just keep playing, that’s a part of it. Take the good with the bad and yeah, just part of it. You still keep going and try shooting as low as you can.”
