Jason Day hopes adjustments keep him healthy, happy at 2020 Masters
Coming off a seventh-place finish at last week’s Houston Open, Jason Day’s health complications seem resolved — for now.
“My back is good,” Day said after Tuesday’s practice round. “My neck is good. I've always had a bit of a problem trying to stay healthy, and fortunately this week I feel really nice.”
Day has reshaped his golf swing in an effort to neutralize his neck troubles, and admits that transformation has not always been smooth. The 2015 PGA Championship winner will tee off at 7:55 a.m. Thursday with 2011 Masters champ Charl Schwartzel and amateur Abel Gallegos.
“I've gone back and forth between hitting a fade and a draw, and then on top of it I'm trying to change my swing to alleviate some of that back pain,” Day said. “Some weeks it feels like it kicks in nicely, and other weeks it feels like it's back to square one again.”
As Day answered his final question near the oak tree behind the clubhouse, fellow competitor Xander Schauffele walked behind.
“Blah, blah, blah,” said Schauffele, as he playfully nudged Day on the shoulder.
“Hey,” Day quipped. “You should stay and listen to this wisdom.”
