Sungjae Im posts second-round 70, sits one shot off lead
After putting the finishing touches on a first-round 66 on Friday morning, Sungjae Im posted a 70 in the second round of the Masters Tournament to place himself near the top of the leaderboard.
Im was all over the place on the scorecard, but six birdies offset four bogeys to put the young Korean one shot off the clubhouse lead. In what was probably his best shot of the day, he put his tee shot on the par-3 12th within five feet of the cup, leading to one of those six birdies.
Im said the goal between now and tomorrow morning is rest.
“I played 28 holes today, so I have to be honest, I'm a bit tired,“ Im said. ”But I want to rest up and get ready for the weekend.“
Going off what he saw in the practice rounds, Im feels like his play style can flourish here. Despite being a Masters rookie, he hit 12 of 14 fairways in the second round, after going 10-for-14 in his opener.
“I played 18 holes Monday when I got here, but I did feel like this course suited my style of game,“ he said. ”I just approached the tournament with confidence.“
