Tiger Woods walks off course T-22 when Masters second round was suspended

After sleeping in a bit Friday morning due to his 2:30 p.m. ET tee time, Tiger Woods couldn’t get his best form to wake up.

After firing a sizzling bogey-free, 4-under-par 68 in Thursday’s first round of the 84th Masters – matching his lowest score in the first round in 23 Masters and notching his first round without a bogey in a major championship since the opening 18 of the 2009 PGA Championship – Woods was in a prime spot to successfully defend his 2019 title and capture his record-tying sixth green jacket.

But after reaching 5 under with a birdie on the par-5 second of the weather-delayed second round – which got him within four shots of the lead – Woods couldn’t get much going and finished his day where he began.

Woods added a birdie on the par-5 8th from short range but bogeyed the par-4 third with a three-putt from 12 feet and bogeyed the par-4 seventh after driving into the trees. It’s not that Woods played poorly, it’s just he couldn’t gather much momentum and move up the leaderboard.

Woods was even-par on his round through 10 holes. He will start his Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET in a dicey spot – in the first cut on the left side of the dangerous par-4 11th hole, some 203 yards from the green guarded by a pond. The first cut is much thicker and taller this year as the tournament officials have not been able to send out the mowers due to recent storms.

And then he’ll move to the heart of Amen Corner – the always enticing, devilish par-3 12th where swirling winds and Rae’s Creek can ruin a scorecard.

Just as concerning for Woods is the awfully quick turnaround he has to make, especially considering his 44-year-old body is home to a left knee that’s been operated on five times and a back that’s been surgically repaired four times, including a spinal fusion procedure.

Woods quickly left the course after darkness halted play at 5:30 p.m. He will likely awake at 4 a.m. to begin preparing for what could be a very long day, which is probably the reason Woods didn’t speak with reporters after play was called for the day. He has to cool down, eat and get to bed.

And hope his best form hears the alarm clock
