Fans react to Schwartzel win
Whether fans were rooting for Charl Schwartzel from the beginning or were just amazed with his finish, his supporters had a lot to say Sunday:
Nick Mazzarella said Schwartzel's win was the best he had ever seen.
"A guy that had four birdies coming down the stretch of Augusta National on a Sunday, that's amazing."
"We weren't rooting for him until he hit the eagle, but after that absolutely."
Christina Herrera traveled from Venezuela and was rooting for Jhonattan Vegas before they caught on to Schwartzel.
"It was really intense today. There were a lot of good people in the lead. He played a fantastic game."
Galo Gamara said it was amazing to watch Schwartzel and all the other leaders Sunday.
"It was great. Whoever wins the Masters is going to be quite the sight. They did a hell of a job to be able to win a tournament like this in a crowd like this. This and a once in a lifetime experience."
Patrick McBride said Schwartzel's win reminded him of Jack Nicklaus' famous 1986 victory.
"For Schwartzel's win, we can call him the birdie man. It was definitely out of the shadows. Anytime you make four birdies in the last four holes, it's comparable to Jack in 1986."
For a group of 12 South Africans who flew to Augusta to just to watch Schwartzel, the win is momentous.
"It's the golfing event of the year for a lot of South Africans," said David Lewis. "In order to watch at home in South Africa, you've got to start at 2a.m. and a lot of people were doing that."
"It's the way this game is played," Fred Robertson said. "It's not until the last ball has been hit. It's absolutely phenomenal he could come through."
