Englishman David Lynn earns spot into next year's Masters Tournament

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – At 38 years old, Englishman David Lynn had never played a golf tournament in America before this week’s PGA Championship.

With his runner-up finish, he guarantees at least two more major visits next year.

Lynn’s Sunday 68 earned him a spot next to runaway winner Rory McIlroy at the Wanamaker Trophy presentation and locked up invitations to next year’s Masters Tournament and PGA.

“I’ve just done an interview for Sky, and he’s just said it gets you in the Masters, which is just a dream come true, obviously,” said Lynn. “If that is the case then that’s amazing.”

The top four finishers qualify for the next season’s Masters, and Lynn was the only player among the group not already assured of a spot in the field at Augusta National.

Swainsboro’s Blake Adams and Welshman Jamie Donaldson missed qualifying for the Masters by one shot.

Lynn, however, is thrilled for the chance.

“Seeing Augusta as many times as I have, it’s like I know the place and I’ve never even been there,” Lynn said. “So actually going and getting to experience it is going to be amazing and something I’m really going to look forward to.”

Despite being a pro for 17 years, he’s only played in two career majors. He tied for 53rd at the 2003 British Open.

“So I’ve never missed the cut in a major,” he said.
