Overnight storm causes delay, some damage at Augusta National
An overnight storm dropped 1.4 inches of rain on Augusta National Golf Club, but that wasn’t the worst part – at least for patrons.
With winds reaching almost 40 mph in the early morning hours, a tree fell on the bathroom adjacent to the No. 16 green.
“We hope to have it rebuilt and up and running by the end of the day,” Augusta National and Masters Tournament chairman Billy Payne said.
Patrons were delayed about 45 minutes in the morning as workers cleaned debris around the course. A team of staff and volunteers continued to fix issues throughout the day.
Several of the bunkers, Payne said, were completely washed out. He expects them to be fully restored by day’s end.
“Once again, an amazing response, and thanks to our team, our staff and volunteers,” Payne said.
