Rickie Fowler breaks through with playoff victory at Quail Hollow
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Rickie Fowler birdied the first hole of sudden death to win his first PGA Tour event, besting current U.S. Open champion Rory McIlory and D.A. Points in the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday.
The short birdie putt came on the par-4 18th hole.
Fowler, McIlory and Points finished regulation at 14-under 274. Fowler closed with 69, McIlroy had 70 and Points shot 71.
Augusta pro Patrick Reed closed with 74 to tie for 32nd place at 283.
