Scott makes adjustments, regains confidence
Adam Scott enters the 2017 Masters Tournament off a missed cut the previous week, but an adjustment made over the weekend has his spirits high.
The 2013 Masters champion missed the cut by one stroke at the Shell Houston Open last week despite shooting an opening-round 68. He used the weekend to tweak his alignment while standing over the ball.
Scott said he’s now hitting the ball better than he’s seen in a while.
“At some point I’ll have to rely on my short game, which is sharp, but at the same time I feel like I’m hitting the ball the best I have all year,” Scott said. “Hopefully that works to my advantage, too, and I hit a few more greens than I have been, and hopefully that gets me into a spot of contention this week.”
Scott, who’s finished outside the top 25 the past two Masters, said improving his putting was a big focus for him early in 2017. It’s showing in his performance and confidence on the greens, and he hopes that bodes well on a course that requires a consistent short game.
“I’d say it’s as confident as I was when I was back winning this tournament or world No. 1,” he said. “Obviously, when you’re in those positions, your short game is pretty sharp. So, I feel like I’ve taken it back up to that kind of level and confidence is high.”
