Editor’s note: Throughout Arnold Palmer’s career, The King was well known for sending letters of praise to other golfers. Many of his notes were mailed to Masters Tournament champions. This week, The Augusta Chronicle will feature seven letters that Palmer wrote to other major championship winners, including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and Charl Schwartzel.

Jordan Spieth not only shared a table at the Champions Dinner with Arnold Palmer, he was also locker-mates at Augusta National Golf Club with The King.

After his victory at Kapalua’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions in 2016, Palmer wrote Spieth to congratulate the 22-year-old Texan on his latest win.

“You are going to run me out of different ways to congratulate you on your victories,” Palmer wrote on January 11, 2016.

Palmer continued his note by expressing pleasure in getting to share a locker with Spieth for the 2016 Masters Tournament.

“I am pleased to know that we will be sharing a locker in the Champions Room at Augusta National,” Palmer stated.

According to Spieth, Palmer mailed a note following each his tour victories – including one for the 2015 Masters.

“Mr. Palmer sent letters each time after I won and they were always special,” Spieth said. “He knew exactly how I won and always made them personal.”

When Palmer died in September, Spieth stated, “It’s an honor to be a locker mate with you at ANGC. You inspired millions, changed the game, and will forever be missed.”
