Second-round leaders Day, Scott go nowhere on Moving Day

Jason Day and Adam Scott began Moving Day at the Masters hoping to continue the roll that had them tied for the leading going into Saturday's third round.

Instead, the duo spent their Saturday stuck in idle.

Scott made three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars to shoot an even-par 72. Day had three birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey and 12 pars for 1-over 73.

Now, both find themselves with serious ground to make up. Scott is six shots back of tournament leader Francesco Molinari, while Day is seven back.

"With this many people in there, I think four (back) you feel like you've got a good chance tomorrow," said Scott, who is tied for 12th with Rickie Fowler. "Of course I have a chance. ... Can I shoot 61? I think it's possible the way the course is, especially with the pins tomorrow. But that's what I need to do, unless something dramatic happens."

A day after making birdie on all four par-5s, Day couldn't coax one out of those holes Saturday. He parred the first three and took a disastrous double-bogey 7 on No. 15, hitting into the water on his approach. 

"That's obviously thoroughly disappointing with how things were going after the first two days," Day said. "I had it to 2-under and I was thinking, OK, if I can birdie 13 – I ended up birdieing 12 and 14 instead of birdieing the par-5 – that probably would have taken me to 10.

"I was just out of position with my driver. Unfortunately I couldn't get it on the fairways and get myself back into position to give myself a legitimate chance to make a birdie, especially on the par-5s. ... It's disappointing to finish the way I did."

Day hit only 7 of 14 fairways. Scott, meanwhile, found 12 of 14 fairways but saw his putter sabotage his round; he needed 32 putts and three-putted twice.

"I found them slow, maybe the slowest I've ever seen them here," Scott said of the greens. "Early on, I just didn't have enough pace on putts, and then I had too much pace."

Scott opened with a birdie and later got to 9-under with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13. But he gave both shots back with bogeys on Nos. 16 and 18, missing a 5-footer for par on the final hole. 

"Today was just to try and get yourself into contention," Day said. "Although I didn't have my best stuff, I felt like I was managing it pretty well until 15. ... It is what is is. I just have to come out and try and be better tomorrow."
