Charles Howell closes Masters with final round 69
You never really get comfortable with Augusta National, according to Charles Howell. The Augusta native, playing is his ninth Masters, said he might have taken the invite for granted in the past.
Making his first Masters since 2012, he wanted to make the most of it. Finishing with a final-round 69 was a nice way to close out his up-and-down tournament.
“I had some moments where I played some really nice golf and had to go through the end of the day yesterday, obviously I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, but it was a mix of both and a lot of good stuff,” Howell said. “I think I realized how much I missed it, how much I missed being here. I don’t think I want to miss another one.”
Even beyond his score – a tie for 32nd at 3-under 285 – Howell was just happy to be back on the grounds as a player. He also got to have his children along for the Par-3 Contest, through the round and when he spoke with media.
“It’s great, they wondered why I didn’t do better,” he said. “My son is going to offer me some putting advice here in about 30 minutes I’m quite sure, but it’s great. The Par-3 with them was wonderful, and hopefully (we will) be back next year.”
